Most business owners, when shopping around to have a website designed, look at only two things:
Appearance and price.
And who can blame them? After all, they (ok, most of them) don’t know about the rest of the essential stuff.
Unfortunately, as with everything in life, what you pay for is what you get…
You see, much like a car, a website needs several components to be fully functional – and several of those are out of sight.
So yes, you can order a great-looking website for as little as R1,000. But…
1. Will your web designer take steps so that Google can find it?
2. What will it look like when shared on social media?
3. Will the website be secure against hackers?
4. Will the website load quickly so you don’t lose any of your visitors?
5. Will it be logically laid out so that even technophobes can find what they need?
6. Will it be “maintenance-heavy”, and cost you a lot to run?
Or is the website just something that “looks nice”, and everything else is optional, costing you extra?
Think of it like this:
If you set out to buy a car…
Do you only look at the cost and its looks, or do you look at:
1. Safety features
3. Fuel consumption
4. Maintenance costs
5. How it drives…?
If it looks great and it’s cheap, it probably lacks in other areas like safety, fule consumption and reliability.
The same goes for your website. If it looks great and it’s cheap, something else had been sacrificed to do it at that price.
Now ask yourself the question:
If you had to buy a car, on a limited budget…
Would you rather have one that looks great and fits your budget, or one that will be cheap to run, practical, reliable and safe?
Now consider the fact that your website is part of your business, and that it has to bring money IN, and not just be another expense…
Why on earth would you consider how it looks, but not whether it will get the job done?
